A certified translation is one whose correctness, completeness and conformity with the original is confirmed by a sworn translator registered with a district court. Many German authorities require certification for documents drawn up in a foreign language (e.g. driving or marriage licences, company registrations, notarized deeds). This requirement does not, however, apply at all times. Due to the extra cost of certification, check this point with the competent authority to which the document is to be submitted.
